Rail Category Medicals

The Rail Category Medical assessments are specifically designed to ascertain the safety and competency of rail workers in effectively performing their duties. These assessments encompass crucial aspects, such as the ability to hear instructions and maintain awareness of their surroundings while operating within the rail corridor.

High Road Work Doctor employs Authorised Health Professionals who are fully equipped to conduct Rail Category Medical Assessments in accordance with the National Rail Safety Standard, as outlined below:

CATEGORY 1 RAIL MEDICAL:
This category is applicable to workers engaged in safety critical work, where their ill health could lead to sudden incapacity or collapse, potentially resulting in a serious incident affecting public safety or the rail network.

CATEGORY 2 RAIL MEDICAL:
This category applies to workers involved in safety critical work, but their sudden incapacity would not endanger the safety of the public or the rail network.

CATEGORY 3 RAIL MEDICAL:

This category is for workers engaged in non-safety critical work, where their health and fitness do not have a direct impact on the rail network. Nonetheless, they are still responsible for safeguarding their own safety and that of their co-workers.

CATEGORY 4 RAIL MEDICAL:

This category refers to a classification of workers within the rail industry who do not operate around the railway tracks or face potential risk from moving rolling stock. As such, these workers are not mandated to undergo health assessments, given their work environment and duties do not pose direct, track-related risks.
